A WELCOME SURPRISE: NORTH KOREA AT THE KOREAN WINTER OLYMPICS

Instead of more bellicose language, a totally unexpected proposal from Kim Jong Un, the maximum leader of North Korea, that the country that he absolutely controls could be a participant in the forthcoming Winter Olympic games on the Korean peninsula, pitting North Korean athletes against those from 90 other participating nations, is nothing less than sensational. The very fact that North and South Korean delegates are meeting for the first time in two years to work out any cooperative endeavor is exciting and encouraging news.

It may be a bit premature for the Olympic Committee to begin strewing rose portals in the streets of its headquarters of Lausanne, Switzerland. A spokesperson for the South Korean Sports Minister says that North Korea will quibble over details for as long as possible.

In the meantime, every American should support President Trump on his approval of the intra-Korean dialogue.

At long last, do we dare hope for a peace treaty between the two countries on the Korean peninsula?
